iPhone 8 Sales Very Discouraging

Apple shredding its iPhone 8 production in half is a result of how poorly this and the iPhone 8 Plus have been performing in comparison to previous-gen models. A new report has now concluded that the iPhone 8 and the ‘Plus’ variant have been selling worse than the ‘s’ model.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus Accounted for Just 16% of All iPhone Sales – iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus Performing Far Better

According to CIRP’s latest report, the iPhone 8 and its larger brother are actually selling worse than the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models. Both of the latest devices accounted for just 16 percent of all iPhone sales, against a 24 percentage figure for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

The report also states that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus continue to see strong demand and with the price reduction, popularity growth is expected. Both of these devices accounted for 58 percent of sales in the latest quarter, making them a popular device when compared against the iPhone 8.

Though the report has been formed on the basis of a survey of just 500 U.S.-based Apple customers, it shows that retaining a similar phone design can have negative ramifications for a company.

This slump in sales is also because the iPhone X is going to be arriving soon, with a previous report detailing that the sales of this device should account for a 6 percent phone shipment growth in 2018.

Though all three devices are powered by the same A11 Bionic SoC, it shows how a unique design can go a long way in being a curse as well as a savior for a company like Apple.
